10th AnnualCharles H. Tator - Barbara Turnbull Lectureship Series In Spinal Cord Injury

KeyNote Speaker - Dr. Armin Curt MD , FRCPC

Lorem ipsumDr. Armin Curt is a Professor and Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injury Centre at the University of Zurich and the Medical Director of the Paraplegic Centre at Balgrist University Hospital. He is also the founder and current chair of the European Multicentre study group in Spinal Cord Injury.

Dr. Curt trained in medicine at the University of Cologne in Germany, and completed his residency in Neurological Intensive Care Medicine, Neurology and Psychology in 1991.

Dr. Curt’s research interests are primarily in the field of neurorehabilitation. He is concerned with improving neurological and neurophysiological assessment in human spinal cord injury, redefining functional outcome measures for use in clinical trials, and rehabilitating upper and lower limb function.

He aims to improve translational research in human spinal cord injury by increasing dialogue and congruence between pre-clinical and clinical scientists. He is currently working to develop more sensitive and responsive outcome measures in order to identify opportunities for neural repair and to assess the clinical significance of new interventions. Dr. Curt is also the lead investigator in a clinical trial testing the safety and potential efficacy of adult neural stem cells in spinal cord injury.

In 2010, Dr. Curt won the Susanne Klein-Vogelbach Prize for the Research in Human Movement for his work on rehabilitation after spinal cord injury
